Jameel Ishmael Ali was born on December 9, 1954, in St. Louis, Missouri to James Alvin Pearson Sr and Zelda Curry-Pearson of Starkville, Mississippi. He was the eldest of 3 children. in 1958, Jameel and his mother relocated to Chicago to start a new life.
Jameel was an easy going, polite and respectful child who made friends easily wherever he went. He attended Presentation Catholic School where he played first chair trumpet in the bad. He later graduated from Provident St. Mel High School, active in baseball. After high school, Jameel attended Eastern Illinois University where he was involved in the Black Student Union.
In 1973, while working a summer job, Jamell was introduced into the Nation of Islam by a coworker. This changed his life forever. He dedicated himself as a student, studying Islam for the rest of his days. He was strong in faith and willing to share knowledge with whoever would listen. Jameel attended various masaajid throughout the Atlanta area and considered Masjid An Nur as his home.
Upon graduating from Eastern, Jameel began working at Household Finance Corporation in Chicago. He later started a 20-year career with Illinois Bell (now AT&T) as a Project Manager, bringing him to St. Louis and eventually Atlanta where he settled for over 30 years. After retirement, Jameel worked for Delta Airlines, affording him travel opportunities including Israel and Cuba. Recently, he began working at Home Depot, recognized this year as 2023 Pro Champion.
Jameel was a lifelong learner who loved reading, intellectual discussions, travel, dancing, cooking, jazz and fine art. He was a 3rd degree black belt who studied martial arts under Grandmasters Moses Powell and Cleveland Robinson.
Jameel passed away on November 14, 2023 after a brief illness, returning to his Creator peacefully. He leaves behind his son Marwan Ali (Sonya) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Mother Zelda K. Anderson of Chicago, Illinois. His sisters: Kimberly Muhammad of Chicago, Illinois, Tara Anderson-Canty (Edward) of Country Club Hills, Illinois and Annie Collins (sister-cousin) of Redford, Michigan; three nieces: Kamaria Muhammad of Huble, Texas, Najila and Khalila Canty of Country Club Hills. His close friends: Jameel Salaam, Andrew Wilson, Kevin Prince and a host of relatives, friends and coworkers. Proceeding Jameel in death are his father James Alvin Pearson, Sr. and Stepfather Silas Lee Anderson. A special thank you to Brother Jameel Salaam, Brother Rashid Rashad, and Sister Cynthia Salaam.
